Honda A2 Adventure: A Thrilling 3-Day Motorcycle Journey through Scotland's Breathtaking Landscapes

Setting out on an exceptional journey, Tessa from Motormeiden.tv and I had the honor of being part of Honda's first ever organized trip for non-journalists.

The Honda A2 Adventure in the breathtaking landscapes of North Scotland.

In this article, I recount my experience representing the BeNeLux region, where Tessa and I joined fellow creators from Poland, France, Italy, and Germany. The trip unfolded as a meticulously planned and unforgettable journey, treating us like royalty and providing an opportunity to test three distinct motorcycles – the CL500, CB500X, and CBR500R.

Why English? Because the warmth and impact that Honda left on me during this adventure deserved to be shared with a broader audience. Join me as I delve into the essence of each bike, the thrill of navigating the North Coast 500, and the unique charm of the Honda A2 Adventure.

My jaw dropped wide open when I was invited to join this trip. Doubting even, maybe I was still asleep and fantasizing about future adventures. No, it was real! And one month later we were expected at the airport of Inverness, Scotland. For me it was the first time I was a part for something this big to participate in myself, a dream come true and very difficult to surpass. As a photographer I was amazed by the planning and details of the media crew! And would love to be a part of such team in the future as well.

Now, if you know me for a while, you will know that my first two bikes where scrambler like… So to test the Honda CL500 was very interesting for me. My personal adventure began with a Mash 50 Fifty and Ducati Scrambler sixty2 400cc. (see below)

And after a few years, my current taste has landed with a Honda CBR600RR from 2007. And guess what bikes I couldn’t wait to test out in Scotland? The 500cc version of a scrambler and the fireblade!

This trip was with new bikers in mind, no matter you're still in school, already own a house or maybe at a later chapter of your life. Every biker should start on a “small” motorcycle. No I don't mean you have to ride around on a Monkey for 5 years. My point is, in my experience you can have a lot more fun and room for error on a bike with a normal amount of power.

Please don't let someone convince you, you need the most powerful bike to start on, there will be enough time. And your taste is probably still changing and would want to try another model in some time.

Every bike feels different! And Honda proved it to me, these three motorcycles share the same engine.
But oh, they feel so different! The riding position, weight, tire sizes, suspension. Everything adds to the character of the bike.

Getting to know every bike for a full day was thrilling! At least 660 km's on and near the North Coast 500 in Scotland in three days time, set the mood to ride nice and fast. The weather was perfect for northern principles, the view and twisties where so magnificent the rain did not suppress the smile beneath my helmet. My experience on the open road is a visceral experience, and the choice of motorcycle elevated the journey to new heights. From the sleek agility of sport bikes to the rugged dominance of scramblers and the versatile nature of adventure bikes, each motorcycle type brings its own unique charm and purpose to the rider. The CL500

Meet the new but classic CL500, a bike for exploring, enjoying and probably one of the best bikes to start your biker journey with.

The qualities of this bike are very appealing. Reliable piece of fun that is very economic. In the realm of motorcycles, the Honda CL500 stands as a testament to the seamless integration of classic design and cutting-edge technology. This two-wheeled marvel not only pays homage to Honda's rich heritage but also propels riders into the future of motorcycling. The riding position is comfortable and the saddle is nicer to sit on all day than most would probably suspect.

Let's talk about specs:

Engine Excellence: All three beauties share exactly the same engine. I don't have knowledge about how they twist performance to get the results like I have felt. But even trough they share the same tech. These bikes feel entirely different! The only thing they share is that they are well built A2 model bikes.

At the heart of the CL500, CB500X and CBR500R beats a robust 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin four-stroke engine, striking a harmonious balance between power and efficiency. The 67.0mm x 66.8mm bore and stroke contribute to finely tuned performance, providing a smooth and controlled riding experience.

Beginner-Friendly Precision: With a compression ratio of 10.7:1, the CL500 2023 ensures optimal combustion efficiency. The DOHC configuration, featuring four valves per cylinder, showcases Honda's commitment to precision engineering, enhancing power delivery and overall engine performance. Paired with PGM-FI and 34mm throttle bodies, the CL500 2023 boasts advanced induction technology, ensuring precise fuel delivery for a dynamic and responsive ride.

Confident Braking: Equipped with a single 310mm disc and two-piston calipers at the front, coupled with ABS, the CL500 2023 ensures enhanced but not fantastic braking control. The rear features a single 240mm disc with ABS, providing reliable stopping power and instilling confidence in riders. It is best to test and get to know the breaking power of your bike in case of an emergency.

Balance and Nimbleness: Fitted with a 110/80-19 front tire and a 150/70-17 rear tire, the CL500 2023 strikes a balance between stability and maneuverability on various road surfaces. The seat height is 79cm and better suitable for the relaxed or insecure riders. The CL500 offers a nimble and comfortable riding experience for beginners and scrambler enthusiasts alike.

Extended Journeys Made Easy: The 12 liters fuel tank ensures riders can embark on their trips and easily riding 250 km without worrying about an empty tank.

Aesthetic Appeal: Available in Candy Orange, Candy Caribbean Blue Sea, Mat Laurel Green Metallic and Mat Gunpowder Black, the CL500 2023 not only delivers modern performance but also makes a striking statement with its visually captivating color options, appealing to riders who appreciate style as much as substance.

It typically has a tall and upright riding position, a windshield to protect you from wind and dirt, and a comfortable saddle suitable for long-distance rides. The bike often exhibits a sleek and sporty appearance combined with elements essential for adventure riding. Even for the tiny riders among us this bike did not feel tall or unstable. Even though I couldn’t flatfoot I was never scared of tipping over.

My most enjoyable hours where driven on this bike. Miles and miles I could ride standing! Enjoying the view en exploring taking tight turns while standing on the robust footpegs. The CB500X felt so stable and light at the same time.

Let's talk about specs:

Suspension and Handling: The CB500X's adventure-ready design is accentuated by its suspension system. The front features a 41mm SFF-BP USD fork, offering a smooth and controlled ride. The Pro-Link® single shock at the rear, with five-position spring preload adjustability, allowing riders to tailor the suspension to their preferences. Combined with the 18cm ground clearance you are good to enjoy this bike next to the road.

And then finally The CBR500R

The Honda CBR500R, a dynamic and spirited member of the CBR family, redefines the essence of sport riding. Oh I love how this bike lets you experience riding on a sport bike and lets you dream about the day you can ride a real fast super sport. This is the perfect bike for you when you start riding and are not yet allowed to ride 600cc + engines. The idea only that you can be faster in corners on this bike than his big brothers gives me joy. That would differently take some practice and confidence of cource, but there is no better feeling.

Miles per hour ;)

Let's talk about specs:

Responsive Technology: Equipped with PGM-FI and 34mm throttle bodies, the CBR500R boasts advanced fuel injection for precise delivery, enhancing fuel efficiency and responsiveness. The six-speed transmission provides seamless control, allowing riders to effortlessly navigate through a range of speeds.

Sporty Handling: Built on a sturdy and agile chassis, the CBR500R offers sporty handling that's both precise and nimble. The position is in between tour and real racing. If you are unknown with the low handlebars on sport bikes, this is a great step in between. The suspension system, featuring a 41mm front fork, provides a smooth and controlled ride, while the Pro-Link® single shock at the rear ensures stability and responsiveness.

Confident Braking: Enhanced braking control is achieved with the CBR500R's dual front discs, each measuring 320mm, and accompanied by ABS for optimal stopping power. Whether maneuvering through city streets or conquering winding mountain roads, riders can confidently rely on the braking prowess of the CBR500R.
